French Overture in B‑Flat Major

Surprise! I am back with another video after more than a year. This is an original composition dedicated to my piano teacher Henry Waack on his 85th birthday and I will perform this at a fundraising concert in his honour that will feature many of artists and musicians he has worked with throughout the years. So what a better way commemorate this special day than with a majestic overture in the French style.

The music is heavily influenced by Bach. The fugal section features a playful and joyous subject that is heard in various treatments. In the two-voice quasi canon, I had originally envisioned a duet between two soloists in a chamber ensemble. So reworking that part for keyboard was an interesting challenge.
